Restless breeze / parts the grass in zigzags / like startled rabbits
Bright spring moon / makes birds neglect their dreams / to sit up, singing
Moon gazing / mind too busy / for poems
Last night's restless dream / moon's teeth sinking deep, bruising / marking me his own
Tugs at my hair / slaps my cheeks, lifts my skirt / Wind's such a tease!
Dawn chorus / no rhythm, not much bass / I dance anyway
Kestrel's hunting cry / for one wistful moment / I am a mouse
"Breathe me," / wind invites / I do
Wildfire season / scent of sagebrush and mesquite / not yet, but it comes
In the hush / between cars roaring past / lovelorn toads trill
Impatient verdins / steal threads from the spider's web / even as she weaves
Briefly full / arroyo does not care / who drinks, who does not
Aching / this empty cup / to be sipped
Irrepressible / sun shrugs off her white silk robe / and spends the day nude
Catbird / wittering on merrily / about nothing
The sun scarce risen / Summertime hardly begun / Air shimmers with heat
Dawn blushes crimson / Smiling moon tells her secrets / only Night should know
White peonies / planted before she died / blooming anyway
Pearl-white sake / Peony blooms in my glass / and on my tongue
Slow simmer / boils over / when pot's untended
Eavesdropping / on the wind telling tall tales / to the laurel trees
Blackberry season / I breakfast with sparrows / among the thorns
Heliotrope / my gaze follows the sun / willingly dazzled
Hypnotic blue / I open myself slowly / to imagined skies
Dawn's empty garden / golden-throated lilies wait / thirsty for the rain
Heaven on earth / shard of mirror in the dust / reflects the clear sky
Low-slung sarong / the day's long heat / shimmering
